Recently, I have been working on starting an organization, Culture 4 Kids! This organization is dedicated to introducing children to the diverse communities worldwide. Through engaging activities, interactive learning, and hands-on experiences we hope to help the next generation become more open-minded and culturally aware.
Origins
I have always loved working with children, whether at my local dance studio, volunteering in a Kindergarten classroom, or meeting children as they approach me when I volunteer at the Penn Museum. Watching them learn something and seeing the fascination on their faces is so special.
I began to think about how I would be able to get involved in a program with children, thinking about something that I am knowledgeable enough to teach others about. Through my travels, I have learned so much about different cultures. I believe with knowledge of cultures comes increased respect, empathy, and inclusivity. Learning about unique communities around the world is so important to kids. However, oftentimes things like the Peruvian culture or information about a small community in Greece do not come up in the curriculum in school or daily life. That is why I think it is so important to educate little ones about these special places because I believe with a knowledge of the world comes an open mindset and increased acceptance which is so important.
So that is why I thought of Culture 4 Kids! As I mentioned, our mission is through engaging activities, interactive learning, and hands-on experiences to help the next generation become more open-minded and culturally aware.
What is Culture 4 Kids?
Culture 4 Kids is an organization that travels to daycare centers, local libraries, and elementary schools based in the New Jersey area to deliver engaging presentations that include the reading of a children’s book, a small informational session, and a craft at the end! We also offer grab-and-go crafts that include materials for the craft and an information sheet explaining more about the culture the craft is inspired by.
I hope to help many learn more about the world around them, so please reach out through email at contact.culture4kids@gmail.com or visit culture-4-kids.org for more information.
