I recently finished reading Mark Q Sutton’s book, “A Concise Introduction to Cultural Anthropology,” and found it a great beginner’s guide. This book is exactly what it says a great introduction to cultural anthropology. Each chapter thoroughly explains one key term or idea of the field, alongside a few other terms that relate to the main idea of the chapter.

Funny enough, the women on the cover are weavers from Ollantaytambo, Peru- a location I recently visited on my latest trip.

One of my favorite features of the book was the comprehensive glossary at the back. It was helpful while reading the book if I forgot anything while reading the book. I also think this glossary will be something I revisit, as it is very understandable. Additionally, I enjoyed the summaries at the end of each chapter. These summaries were great synthesizes of the main ideas of each chapter.

In conclusion, “A Concise Introduction to Cultural Anthropology” is a great read for anyone interested in learning more about key areas of this discipline. The simple, but effective writing style, alongside the chapter summaries and glossaries make this book great whether you’re new to cultural anthropology or want to deepen your understanding.
